What is Blockchain technology?

Blockchain technology is like a giant ledger that comprises a series of data. This ledger is saved in a decentralised form in nodes (computers) of the network used by the system, with the particularity that the information is replicated identically in all the nodes. And it CANNOT be erased. Once something is entered, it stays registered forever.

Theoretically speaking, is it possible for an entry in a Blockchain-based network be ‘undone’?

Taking into account that decentralisation means that there are thousands of computers with the same data, it would in practice be impossible for all of them to agree to ‘delete’ any piece of data.

What is Alastria?

Who is behind BlockchaIP?

BlockchaIP is a service offered by GRUPO 10 Empresarial IP Software, SLU. We are the leading company in patent and trade mark software in Spain, and we also have a significant presence in Latin America.

The company was created in 1990, that is, in the last century! We believe that this is an important guarantee for clients. In fact, on 10 October 2020 we celebrated being on the market for 30 years. If you have any questions, you can provide you with references (subject to confidentiality by our clients), or better yet, ask any patent and trade mark agency if they know us. That would be the best guarantee.

If BlockchaIP were to disappear someday, would I lose my registrations?

Definitively NO. Registrations are stored in the Alastria network which, as stated before, is made up of the top companies in their sector. It will not disappear.

Where will be document be saved?

For the sake of confidentiality, BlockchaIP will NOT save you file, but will automatically delete it once it is registered.

There is no one more qualified than you to save it wherever you consider appropriate.

BlockchaIP only takes certain details from the file and writes them in the Blockchain-based network, which will later allow you to demonstrate vis-à-vis third parties that the file existed at a certain time.

Can I modify the document once the Certificate of Existence has been generated?

No and yes:

NO. You must keep an exact copy of the file you have registered in BlockchaIP. Therein lies part of the system’s guarantee: the file must be EXACTLY the same you loaded into the system when you generated the Certificate. For example, imagine a document Word, and you generate a Certificate for it. If you later simply enter Word and press ‘Save’, the file would NO longer be the same and the proof would not be valid.
YES. Make a copy of the file, modify whatever you want and then when you feel it is necessary, you re-register the Certificate of Existence of the updated file. In this way you will have two versions of the document, each one at a specific moment in time, each with its Certificate.

Can I verify that the registration has been performed in Alastria correctly?

Yes. In the list of documents you have registered, there is an icon that allows you to verify that the Certificate has been correctly registered in the Alastria network.
